“Update SVN Cache” locked eclipse
This morning Eclipse was locked after starting up. The progress bar indicated “Update SVN cache” as the blocking thread .
I restarted eclipse several times, including with “-clean” option, but that produced no result.
After fiddling with eclipse and railed at Polarion for some time, I remember
a) that I did a system update some days before
2009-09-11 12:59:01 +0200: Installed “Java für Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5“ (1.0)
2009-09-11 12:59:51 +0200: Installed “QuickTime“ (7.6.4)
2009-09-11 13:01:10 +0200: Installed “iTunes“ (9.0.0)
2009-09-11 13:01:55 +0200: Installed “Security Update 2009-005“ (1.0)
b) and that something crashed weirdly yesterday and I was not able to shutdown the machine regularily but had to press the power-button for several seconds to force shut it down (it’s a MacBook, I cannot remove the power plug :)).
This lead me to look for the error in MacOS X itself and it turned out, that something with my firewall (system preferences / security / firewall) configuration got messed up. After changing the firewall settings to allow all incoming requests, eclipse was able to startup again.
Later, I switch the firewall back to restrict access to the applications configured (the option that I use regularily) and svn update continue to work.
Unfortunately I did not find any hints to the blocked request attempt in any log, neither in eclipse logs nor in the mess of system logs.
